Hello
Newb here. Nice site
I am looking specifically for how to make a USB programming cable. It surely can't be hard to do as what I can find it is only two wires. But I don't want that magic smoke to come out either.
And maybe a direction to where to find the software would be nice too.
One last question. Will chirp work?

and chirp wont work.you need dos on you computer to run this software.i can upload the software for ok.
i dont have the wiring but her is cable if you want to purchase ok
If it is a DOS program can't be too big. Soooo can you email it to me? Rfnut2001 at yahoo dot com please?
Thank you!
I still want to try making a cable before I go purchase one.
you need the Icom CS-F300 programming software,
I dont see it in the downloads, it is listed in the Back Catalogue.
the cable is a OPC-592
if you buy a usb cable make sure it has the FTDI chip.
to build one you need to start with a CP2102 usb to TTL or FTDI friend and a 1n4148 diode, fairly simple to wire it up.
you can buy a cable about as cheap as the usb to ttl.
again if buying a usb cable make sure it is FTDI not prolific.
Saludos amigo ya subi el programa que necesita unsted debe generar un tike para poder bajarlo
the cs-f300 I have is a dos program.
I did open the program in windows XP and it ran.
but that dont mean it will work properly.
if it does using a usb cable may be possible.
Building a cable would be great You can do it for 20$ or less and then make it more universal for other types of radios at the same time. Mouser or Digikey will have the FTDI USB cable with dupont connectors on on end you go from there to adapt to particular radios.
Good Luck
Tim
if you have serial port dont use usb cable.serial is better.less headache all if is anyone of the above FTDI or prolific. which you can buy if you going to buy any.i hate to see the member has issue and the problem continue

Agree 100% Max 232 to ttl chips the best way to go
F320thats all I use here for program cables.
i only use serial .except three of them which is usb .two of them which i made and one i purchased the only reason i use them is because they dont make them serial.so i cant do anything about that.
I also agree a serial is best
my main programming interface is serial using a MAX 232 as of now it supports Icom OPC 1122, OPC 478 and Vertex Standard CT-42.
when I need different cable all I have to do is make adaptors.
instead of using a 1n4148 diode I used a 7407 ic.
I also made it so it can be powered by USB, 9 volt battery or power supply.
I have 1 USB cable for kenwwood and Relm and some Chinese HT's it is a prolific clone.

Rfnut2001 asked about making a usb cable not a serial.
most computers now are usb only, not everyone can have and keep up older computer with a serial port.
also some newer radios use a usb cable and have there own drivers, some even can be accessed over wireless network.
the software has been uploaded here and Awaiting Validation
just little advice you can get the dell 610 and dell 620 on ebay .these 2 have serial port and usb.very cheap .i got one in very good condition for 20.00 us.check it out you will be surprised.
I have an icom OPC-1122u now. Wondering if anyone has tried it. Someone listed the software I need, but can't find it. Also if anyone knows a pin out for the mic on this rig. I have a yeasu mh-25abj mic I want to use on it..
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

OPC1122 wont work you need the OPC-592
need to ask for the software to be validated
